About GuyCo

At GuyCo Gecko we have a passion for animals and find New Caledonian geckos absolutely fascinating. They are amazing animals and because of the ease of handling and simple care requirements, this makes them, in our opinion, one of the best pets available. Before focusing in Rhacs, we considered a number of animals like, snakes, frogs, fish and other lizards finally deciding to settle on breeding Geckos and we are really glad we did.

Like many reptile enthusiasts, we started with snakes but quickly realized that geckos were a great way to go because of their moderate size, ease of handling and minimal care required.

Feel free to check out the site and contact us with any questions you might have. We think you will like what you see. After all, who wouldn't like a lizard that can lick its own eye?

Gecko Information

Diplodactylinae is a subfamily of Gekkonidae. They are found in the range of Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia.

Gekkonidae are small to average sized lizards and are better known by their common name geckos. Geckos are found in warm climates throughout the world and are unique among lizards in their vocalizations, making chirping sounds in social interactions with other geckos. An estimated 2,000 different species of geckos exist worldwide, with many likely yet to be discovered. The name stems from the Indonesian/Javanese word "tokek", inspired by the sound these animals make. The Malay word for gecko is "cicak".

All geckos, excluding the Eublepharinae family, have no eyelids and instead have a transparent membrane which they lick to clean. Many species will, drop their tails in defense, a process called autotomy. Many species are well known for their specialized toe pads that enable them to climb smooth and vertical surfaces, and even cross indoor ceilings with ease. Teflon is the only known surface to which a gecko cannot stick. Genus characteristics include long limbs and toes with well developed lamellae. Some webbing occurs on the hind limbs and toes.

New Caledonian geckos, the geckos we specialize in, possess prehensile tails which also have lamellae to assist in climbing. They are for the most part arboreal geckos and are egg layers with the exception of Rhacodactylus trachyrhynchus which gives live birth. These geckos are nocturnal geckos spending most of their time sleeping and hiding during the day. They come in a variety of shapes and colors and with weights reaching just over a pound, the Leachianus Geckos, also known as the Giant Gecko, are the largest Geckos in the world. Gecko Perched
